Title Sequences
Dodge’s Pup School is a playful, puppet-led preschool series from the mind of Warrick Brownlow-Pike and produced by Brilliant Trees Media for the BBC that blends education with entertainment through a classroom of hilarious canine characters. When we were approached to create the title sequence, the challenge was clear: develop a 3D animated title that would feel right at home in a world defined by hand-crafted charm and fuzzy puppets.
Our brief was to channel the warmth and whimsy of a school yearbook (think stickers, scribbles, and well-loved pages) while maintaining consistency with the physical, tactile world of the puppets. The sequence needed to feel authentic to the classroom setting and appeal to both preschoolers and their parents, all without overshadowing the characters themselves.
THE CHALLENGE
We designed a 3D title sequence that brings to life a pup-themed school yearbook, bursting with colour, personality, and playful details. Using Cinema 4D and a carefully curated library of textures, we mimicked real-world materials like felt, crayon, and cut paper. Page turns were animated to feel like charming hands flipping through a well-worn book filled with memories.
Each page introduces key characters, using doodles, and sticker-style elements to reflect the energy of a primary school classroom. Subtle camera moves and soft lighting gave the sequence a storybook quality, while a smart transition at the end allowed the edit to flow seamlessly into live-action puppet scenes followed by the main title.
THE SOLUTION
The title sequence became an integral part of the Dodge’s Pup School identity, setting the tone from the very first frame. Feedback from the BBC and audiences highlighted how the titles captured the nostalgic joy of school, while staying true to the handmade magic of the show’s puppet world.
It’s a prime example of how digital animation can enhance and compliment physical production, creating a bridge between crafted puppetry and 3D digital design.
