Happy Year of the Horse!
With the Spring Festival celebrations taking place during February, we wanted to use this month’s Jump Cuts animation as a chance to wish everyone 马年快乐！
With the year transforming from the year of the Wood Snake to the year of the Fire Horse, the team blended 2D and 3D animation with some tactile textures to represent the transition between the two. From lava effects & growing plants to hand-animated flowers & flames, the team enjoyed experimenting with a new look & feel, which is what the Jump Cuts projects are all about!
A new year rest, recharge, and review!
With January being so busy after the rest & relaxation of the Christmas holidays, we wanted to take a pause on Jump Cuts and look back at what we’ve created over the latter part of 2025. From several varied and vibrant personal projects, to all working together on September’s first Jump Cuts film, each one has been a celebration of the team’s humour, style, and creativity. With time to try new software, techniques, and story-telling approaches, plus dabbling in the occasional bit of sound design, these animated shorts have allowed the team to stretch their creative skills and find fun new ways to bring their ideas to life.
We’re looking forward to seeing what new ideas 2026 brings, starting with February’s Jump Cuts film themed on Chinese New Year!
Rocking "Round" The Christmas Tree...
We couldn’t resist spreading a little festive cheer with this month’s Jump Cuts animation! From robins and wreaths to snow-globes and Santa, the team wanted to create something that shouted “Christmas” whilst also experimenting with icons formed from simplified, geometric shapes.
Designed in Illustrator and animated in After Effects, artist Winston chose a limited colour palette and minimal shapes to ensure each icon was instantly recognisable even with the speedy cuts between sections. Forming each one around circles worked well across the festive theme, and pretty soon each one was bobbing along to a merry Christmas tune!
NoFlix, No Chill
Introducing NOFLIX – the streaming platform with so much choice you’ll never actually watch anything…
With so many great shows and films to watch these days, it’s far too easy to get overwhelmed by the sheer amount of choice! And to hammer home that point for November’s Jump Cuts, the team wanted to play around with this idea of endlessly scrolling for something to watch, so they designed this spoof streaming service and got creative with the titles, exploring different genres and spins on that familiar feeling of “decision fatigue”.
Designed and animated in Adobe Illustrator & After Effects then added to a phone in Cinema 4D, these fun designs lean into the style of each genre and capture the essence of that “doom scrolling” experience!
Cauldron Coffee
Naturally, October calls for something spooky, so for this month’s Jump Cuts piece, we added a Halloween twist to this coffee shop service scene.
Working within an extra tight turnaround time, the team sourced base hand models and then added each character’s defining features with a combination of Photoshop, Blender, Cinema 4D and After Effects. The aim was to give it the texture of claymation without the heavy time investment of the real thing.
The team brought the coffee itself to life not only through clever manipulation of dynamics, volume meshes, and colliders, but through adding in a few “seasonal ingredients” for each customer!
BBQ Dins & Cosy Nights In
September’s Jump Cuts project was all about the changing of the seasons, and how it can sometimes take us by surprise.
With the character designed in illustrator & rigged in After Effects, and the background scene build in Cinema 4D using a paper-like texture, Winston & Greg wanted to see how well they could blend the 2D vector style into a 3D environment.
Helped along with some fun audio design by Mike, we think this captures the surprise of British weather pretty well.
Cheeky Gulls
Hot Dog Hot Rod
Built with Moho, After Effects, and Womp, this film captures the look of traditional frame by frame animation, complete with animated textures and visual effects, but in a fraction of the time thanks to the clever 3D build.
In the wise words of designer and animator Winston, “I just wanted to make something silly, and what’s sillier than a hot dog driving a car trying to look cool?”.
We definitely agree.
Beehive Honey
James is our brand expert, and knows how to bring a high-end-product finish to any project.
He created this vibrant animation as a homage to our co-working space (the “Beehive”), and used a combination of typographic design, 2D motion, and 3D animation, as well as experimenting with Cinema 4D’s new liquid features, to create this satisfyingly loop-able film.

DNA Data
Greg is king of thinking “outside the box”, and this cinematic sci-fi animation is no exception.
His inspiration for this atmospheric short, created using Blender & Geometry Nodes, was in thinking that “data is ‘big’ business for companies and wondering how ‘small’ that data could be packaged in a visual sense – DNA data, using humans as the computers.”
We’d watch that film.
